Like most people, I spend a lot of time imagining stories about worlds that already existed in print – and like most authors, I wrote lots of them down. I’ve been writing fanfic since before I even knew the term – my first foray was when I was thirteen and completely obsessed with Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera. I fondly remember writing my stories by hand in a spiral notebook while at a Girl Scout summer camp.
(And no, you’re not going to find that story online. I’ve read it since, and wow, is it terrible!)
Fanfic was my primary focus for almost a decade, and I still dabble (and drabble) occasionally. While I wrote in various fandoms including Star Wars, the Marvel Universe, Cabin Pressure, Check Please!, and Yuri!!! On Ice, I always considered Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and Sherlock BBC to be my “main” fandoms. You’ll find most of my fanfiction on AO3 and Teaspoon. (The HP fic has been lost in cyberspace. But honestly, I’m still so pissed at Rowling for turning out to be a TERF, it’s probably just as well.)
